The Washington Monument is a United States Presidential Memorial constructed to commemorate our country's first president George Washington.
The building along with its surrounding environment can relate to each of the topics: ritual, ideoloy, security, and authority.
Ritual: The Monument has become a place of public admiration for many Americans along with any foreign visitors to Washington D.C. It serves as a place where many migrate to show respect for the founding father of our nation, and evokes a sense of pride that our country holds a building so beautiful.
Ideology: When one looks upon the Washington Monument, he or she cannot help but feel a sense of pride. It embodies the American ideal: liberty, sovereignty, and independence. These ideals that guide our lives daily are almost personified in such a powerful building.
Security: Tall, sleek sides, sharp edges, and a fine point give the monument a strength and security in appearance. Onlookers should feels safe in the company that is a symbol of the American values which protect them from persecution for unalienable rights.
Authority: Again, the structure of this building demands a respect and reverance from observers that is witnessed in the attitude and behavior of those close.

The "New" Media vs. The "Old" Media
With Digital Multimedia now considered Cutting Edge in the Art World, will traditional media slowly be left behind and deemed "Old School" as the field evolves?
I am sure this is a question heavy on the minds of many traditional artists, those who prefer canvas and paint to a digital camera and computer screen. Nontheless, in any field, innovation and creativity are necessary aspects of growth. The purpose of art often is to push people's boundaries, thus this digital multimedia evolution is highly appropriate. The new techniques, abilities, and possibilites of digital media allow artists to take their work to the next level. Digital artists are able to broadcast their work all over the world using the Internet and the are also even able to get others involved by creating new softwares and other programs that make art capable of any person. This makes digital art more accessible to the public and more attractive to our youngest generation who have grown up completely immersed in digital culture.
I would not like to believe that the beautiful paintings and sculptures deemed classics in ancient times will be completely loss in the digital revolution, but that theses new artists respect those who use traditional media and maybe even find a way to incorporate their work in the evolving setting.
